Fernando Ortiz Monasterio is the visionary founder and co-CEO of VIAVERDE, a global initiative dedicated to transforming urban environments through innovative green infrastructure systems. With over 20 years of experience, Fernando has led the development of groundbreaking technologies and patents in both hardware and software to integrate nature into cities, setting a new standard for sustainable urban design.
Under his leadership, VIAVERDE has successfully completed more than 200 projects across seven countries, adapting its innovative model to diverse geographies and climates. His work includes iconic initiatives such as the transformation of 1,000 concrete columns in Mexico City’s elevated highways into more than 65,000 square meters of vertical gardens, generating environmental, psychological, and social benefits while redefining the aesthetic of urban spaces.
Fernando’s achievements have been recognized globally. In particular, the World Economic Forum honored him as a Global Technology Pioneer, highlighting VIAVERDE as a replicable model for urban centers worldwide. This distinction reflects his ability to combine visionary design with scalable solutions, making a significant impact on cities across the globe.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Fernando holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. He is also a sought-after speaker, having delivered keynote addresses at international conferences, including TED Talks, where he shares his expertise and vision for sustainable urban development.
